Overview

Relpax® Migraine is a medicine used to treat acute migraine attacks. It only treats migraine and is not used for other types of headaches.5

Active ingredient

The active ingredient in Relpax® Migraine is eletriptan hydrobromide. This is a type of medicine called a triptan.3

  • What is Relpax® Migraine for?

  • Do I need a prescription for Relpax® Migraine?

    No, Relpax® Migraine is available from your pharmacist without a prescription. Ask your pharmacist or GP for advice.

  • Is Relpax® Migraine different from pain relievers like paracetamol, aspirin and ibuprofen?

    Yes, Relpax® Migraine is a type of medicine called a triptan. Triptans work in a different way from pain relievers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen. Triptans narrow swollen blood vessels in the brain and block the transmission of pain signals to help relieve migraine pain.6

  • How do I know if a headache is migraine?

    Migraine causes headaches, but not all headaches are migraine. There are some characteristics which distinguish migraine from other types of headaches. Migraine is usually felt as a one-sided throbbing headache that is at least moderately intense and made worse by movement or physical activity. Unlike a regular headache, migraine can cause a wide range of physical and sensory symptoms including nausea, vomiting and increased sensitivity to light, sound and smells. Migraine may also last for much longer than a regular headache – from 4 hours up to 3 days.7

  • Will Relpax® Migraine work for me?

    Migraine varies from person to person and it can take a process of trial and error to find a management approach that works for you.7,8 The good news is there are options available.

    Triptans may work better in some people than pain relievers like paracetamol and ibuprofen.4,6,9

    Also, different triptans may work better for some people than others. So, if one triptan doesn’t work for you, Relpax® Migraine may still provide relief.5

  • Is Relpax® Migraine the same as other triptans?

    Relpax® Migraine belongs to a family of medicines called triptans and there are several available. All triptans have some common properties, but each one is a little different. You might have to try a few different triptans before you find one that works for you.6,8

  • How do I take Relpax® Migraine?

    Take one tablet as soon as possible after a migraine headache starts.5

    If your migraine comes back after initial relief, you can take a second tablet provided it is at least 2 hours after the first tablet. Do not take a second dose within 2 hours of taking the first dose.5

    If the first tablet does not relieve your migraine, don’t take another tablet for the same attack.5

  • How does Relpax® Migraine work?

    Relpax® Migraine is a targeted migraine treatment that works differently from pain relievers like paracetamol or ibuprofen.6

    During a migraine attack, blood vessels inside the head become swollen. Relpax® Migraine reduces the size of these blood vessels to relieve migraine pain. It also blocks the release of chemicals involved in pain and stops pain signals to the brain. This can reduce migraine pain and or relieve migraine pain completely.5,6
